Senior Scouts of NMB are invited to join the Eastern Cape Mountain Club / Search & Rescue team on an introductory weekend on 14- 15 January 2012.
This event will take place +- 45km from Port Elizabeth. The venue is a secret as this lends itself to the theme of search and rescue.
- The agenda for the weekend
> meet at 1st Walmer Scout Hall in Fordyce Rd (between 3rd and 4th Ave) at 8:30am
> departure at different times and will be in the form of a navigational instructions (different routes with different tasks along the way) to arrive at the final venue +- 10:00am
> set up camp, fall in, overview of the weekend event after everyone has arrived.
> rat pack lunch
> event from midday will consist of a hike, instructions and practical mountain climbing, abseiling, bolder hoping (with some swimming along the way), first aid, retrieval of "Annie's" return hike back to camp with "Annie's" to simulate a successful rescue
> debrief
> rat pack supper
> presentation by MC S&R members on how a S&R event is managed with some referrals to actual past events
> campfire (singing so bring campfire blankets) ..........?????? wait and see
> Sun morning - rat pack breakfast some technical rope work and lectures
> ..........?????? wait and see
> Brunch and break camp
> Depart at 12noon and return to PE
Please note this event is open to Rovers and Senior Scouts only
(Scouters are welcome to participate)
I request feedback as to the names of Rovers / Senior Scouts / MC
members by Dec 9th, so the planning & catering can be finalised during
the Dec holidays.
This will hopefully be the first event which will lead to further
interactions between Scout and Mountain Club
